{"id":177,"date":"2009-04-28T23:49:06","date_gmt":"2009-04-29T03:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kmci.org\/alllifeisproblemsolving\/archives\/across-the-board-km-interventions-are-they-practical\/"},"modified":"2009-04-28T23:49:06","modified_gmt":"2009-04-29T03:49:06","slug":"across-the-board-km-interventions-are-they-practical","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmci.org\/alllifeisproblemsolving\/archives\/across-the-board-km-interventions-are-they-practical\/","title":{"rendered":"Across-the-Board KM Interventions: Are They Practical?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dkms.com\/kmci\/alllifeisproblemsolving\/wp-content\/themes\/cutline-3-column-split-11\/images\/57328main_MM_image_feature_151_jw4.jpg\" alt=\"imagejw4\" height=\"356\" width=\"475\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 150%\" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Arial, sans-serif\"><font size=\"3\">Today, Stephen Bounds offered an important <a href=\"http:\/\/bounds.net.au\/node\/26\" title=\"KM and Monte Carlo Simulations\">blog post<\/a> entitled \u201cKM and Monte Carlo Simulations\u201d and an <a href=\"http:\/\/bounds.net.au\/sites\/default\/files\/KM%20and%20Monte%20Carlo%20simulations.pdf\" title=\"Using Monte Carlo simulations to predict outcomes of KM interventions\">attached paper<\/a> entitled: \u201cUsing Monte Carlo simulations to predict outcomes of KM interventions.\u201d In the paper, Stephen uses Monte Carlo simulations along with the assumption that across-the-board KM interventions have a probabilistic (propensity) effect on \u201cknowledge failures,\u201d to show that if the interventions have a moderate effect on reducing knowledge failures of, say, 10%, then the intervention may still \u201c. . . have a negligible effect on bottom-line savings over a sustained period of time.\u201d In addition, in a related list serv post at <a href=\"http:\/\/actkm.org\/mailman\/listinfo\/actkm_actkm.org\" title=\"actKM List\">actkm.org<\/a>, he says further:<\/font><\/font><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: 150%\" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Arial, sans-serif\"><font size=\"3\">\u201dDepending on the organisational situation, you may need to achieve up to a 50% reduction in knowledge failures before you can reasonably bank on getting a good rate of return on investment. Unless you can guarantee this as part of a general KM program, you are putting your own reputation on the line for what is essentially a gamble.\u201d <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: 150%\" align=\"left\"><font face=\"Arial, sans-serif\"><font size=\"3\">Even though I haven&#8217;t fully digested or critiqued its assumptions yet, and even though I&#8217;m not entirely clear on what constitutes an \u201cacross-the-board,\u201d as opposed to a targeted KM program from Stephen&#8217;s point of view, I highly recommend this paper and the related blog.
